Nanofiber technology
Inventors at Stellenbosch University have pioneered a number of revolutionary technologies, using nanofiber technology.
Professor Bert Klumperman and post-graduate researcher Osama Bshena pioneered a new polymer compound with permanent antimicrobial properties which could be spun into a nanofiber format.
- Permanent antimicrobial nanofiber can be used to produce filter elements and membranes for the sterilisation of water and air. They have valuable applications in hospitals, water treatment facilities and pharmaceutical companies, among others.
The nanofiber technologies developed under the leadership of Dr Eugene Smit at Stellenbosch University have recently been licensed successfully and are therefore no longer available here for further licensing.
