Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) - Call for Propsals

Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) was established in terms of the TIA Act, 2008 (Act No. 26 of 2008), with the objective to stimulate and intensify technological innovation in order to improve economic growth and the quality of life of all South Africans by developing and exploiting technological innovations.

To achieve its mandate TIA provides and mobilizes financial and non-financial support across broad technology areas in various sectors of the economy through:

  • appropriately structured financial and non-financial interventions fro the commercialization of research and development (R&D) results;

  • the development and maintenance of advanced human capacity for innovation;

  • building a culture of innovation in South Africa economy and

  • Leveraging local and international partnerships in order to facilitate in-bound technology transfer, build local technological competencies, and encourage foreign direct investment for the commercialization of technologies in South Africa.

PURPOSE OF THE CALL

TIA is calling for the submission of Full Proposals that focus on the following economic sectors to be considered for investment:

  • Health

  • Agriculture

  • Industrial Biotechnology

  • ICT

  • Energy

  • Mining, and

  • Advanced manufacturing

SCREENING CRITERIA AND PROCESS

In addition to other criteria outlined in the TIA website www.tia.org.za, submissions need to meet the following criteria:

  1. All application or submissions must be on the TIA template, available on the TIA website

  2. All proposals must present a technology innovation opportunity that demonstrates an attractive business case with the potential to create considerable socio-economic value for South Africa

  3. Proposals must be based on a technology innovation for new products or services development, demonstrating a time to market of not more than three years

  4. Technology to be funded must be South African based and applicants must be SA citizens or permanent residents

The application form can be downloaded from www.tia.org.za and the proposals must be submitted via email: TIACall2010@tia.org.za or faxed to 086 625 8755.

CLOSING DATE 

The completed proposals should be submitted to TIA on or before the 17th of January 2011 at 16H00.
Late applications will not be considered.
