Winner Announced for the Second Annual Stellenbosch Network #IdeasForChange Challenge

After weeks of public voting, the results are in: Congratulations to Dillon Martin on being named the winner of this year’s #IdeasForChange Challenge to make Stellenbosch a ‘Smarter City’!

Dillon secured R10 000 cash + a seat in one of the 2022 Stellenbosch University LaunchLab Programmes to the value of R20 000 with his idea to create a visual representation of Stellenbosch; an app that will see public spaces around town turned into digital hotspots via QR codes that – when scanned – will showcase virtual information in the physical world.

His aim is to give ordinary people the power to re-imagine space in Stellenbosch as we currently know it. The platform will allow creatives to design digital façades to beautify underutilised buildings; give local businesses the opportunity to run virtual ads in the real-world; and will afford members of the public new spaces in which to share important information with others.

In bringing this year’s competition to a close, we would like to thank Stellenbosch University and the SU LaunchLab for their sponsorship and continued support. We also extend a special thank you to all the participants who submitted their groundbreaking ideas to us. We thoroughly enjoyed your innovative creativity and look forward to everything you do in the future!
