Welcome to the Family: Madelein Kleyn

Welcome to the Family: Madelein Kleyn

If you have ever met a polymath, then you probably know our new Director of Technology Transfer, Madelein.

It is not often that writing introductions to new Innovus family members makes me question whether or not I am really doing enough with my life, but this is the case with Madelein Kleyn. She developed and lectures the LLM module: Patent and Design Law, for the Anton Mostert Chair of Intellectual Property (IP) Law at Stellenbosch University, writes articles and books, runs a separate IP consulting business (Mad K IP Consulting), speaks at summits, edits the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law (SAIIPL) IP Briefs Newsletter and the International Pharmaceutical Law and Practice Journal, and is the President of the Licensing Executives Society of South Africa.

Madelein comes to us from Oro Agri, where she managed all the international legal and IP work, which is after she previously worked as the Chief IP Legal Advisor for Sasol. As you can tell from the amount of experience she has and the work ethic she embodies, ‘fortuitous’ doesn’t adequately describe Innovus’ new posting…

Anita Nel, who heads up Innovus and SunCom, says: “In the month since Madeleine has joined us, she has stepped headlong into patent work, understanding our projects, and working with Innovus’ Technology Transfer Office which she oversees. We are still baffled by how Madelein finds time to go hiking, spend time with her husband and two teenage kids, and then also hitting the gym, but that is just the sort of person she is, and we are extremely fortunate to have her as part of the Innovus team.”

Welcome to the Innovus family, Madelein!
