Stellenbosch University students clinch victory in three EDHE categories

 

Three students from Stellenbosch University clinched victory in three of the five competition categories in the 2023 Entrepreneurship Development in Higher Education (EDHE) competition. Michle Njokweni, Yaa Addo-Bediako, Jené Venter and Wessel Myburgh were amongst 38 studentpreneur finalists from SU, UCT, UWC and CPUT to take part in the regionals held at the University of Cape Town (UCT) on 19 September 2023. Myburgh and Venter will be going to the EDHE nationals competition to represent SU on 30 November 2023.

 

The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), in collaboration with Universities South Africa and through the EDHE programme, is hosting the fifth annual National Entrepreneurship Intervarsity from March to November 2023. This competition is funded by the University Capacity Development Programme and supported by the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation and SAB Foundation.

 

These talented SU Students clinched victory in three out of the five competition categories as follows: In category 1 – New Business Ideas – Njokweni, a student in the Faculty of Engineering and the founder of Asé Hair and Yaa Addo-Bediako, from the faculty of Science and founder of EHHIKE both took first place. In category 2 – Existing Business (Tech), Founder of Djol, Venter, from the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, came out top. Founder of SU’s latest spinout, Urobo Biotech in the Faculty of Science, won in category 5 – Research-based business.

 

Category 1 winners will receive recognition at the national competition, as it is not yet a national-recognised category.
