Hein is an experienced operational leader, and his management expertise spans the full range of operational functions – human relations, information technology, finance, production, sales, purchasing and facility management. Add to this his legal expertise and knowledge, creating value propositions to customers and penetrating new markets for services, combined with his many years of experience in the commercial services and outsourcing industry, and you will find a well-rounded business leader equipped and driven to handle any situation impeding corporate initiatives. He can handle any problem quickly and efficiently and is constantly turning his knowledge into skills. Under his leadership, commercialisation within the university has grown to a multimillion-rand business.
His legal background helps him to approach problems systematically and analytically, to weigh up all options open to him and to consult on complex problems before he provides solutions. It has given him the ability to enter negotiations with the necessary knowledge obtained through both study and practical application, be it with labour unions or suppliers (labour relations and contract negotiations).
Besides his function as Senior Director: SUNCOM (the commercial arm of Stellenbosch University), he serves on the board of directors of a number of private companies where he represents the university as a shareholder and is also involved in the Industrial Relations Division of Stellenbosch University.
Hein’s many accomplishments are achieved mainly through determination and perseverance in reaching or exceeding his high standards. His tendency to ‘think out loud’ enables others to follow his line of thinking.
Hein does not give up easily, and he does not react well to “it can’t be done”.
