INDUSTRIAL APPLICATION

Industrial by-products are potential feedstocks for biofuel production. However, it carries a high bioburden that negatively influences the biofuel process. Designing a process/system to reduce the bioburden of industrial feedstocks would greatly benefit bio-ethanol production.

LIMITATIONS OF EXISTING TECHNOLOGIES

Current sterilisation processes have failed to completely eradicate the bioburden of industrial feedstocks. A lack of internal mixing and the inability to aseptically discards the treated product have prevented the wide spread use of industrial by-products in biofuel production.

THE TECHNOLOGY

The patent describes a process/system that reduces the bioburden of an industrial by-product and prevents the recontamination of the treated product.

Reduce Bioburden

Apply internal mixing to disrupt the three-dimensional structure of the industrial by-product. Microorganisms become more vulnerable when exposed and thus more likely to be killed.

Preventing Recontamination

Aseptically transport the treated product from one unit operation to another without being exposed to the environment. Steam pressure and internal screw to assist with transportation.
