Gradlinc: addressing South Africa's graduate unemployment crisis with a simple solution

An innovative graduate career development platform — Gradlinc — was launched at the beginning of Stellenbosch University's 2022 graduation week on 5 December 2022.

Gradlinc is a must-needed solution to connect employers, graduates, and universities on a national cloud-based platform. The platform's unique matching algorithm ensures that employers' job requirements match very precisely with the graduates' skillset. Stellenbosch University's innovation division, Innovus, funded this initiative.

"This bespoke graduate career development platform will enable credible, eligible, and verified graduates to connect to existing job opportunities by bringing employers and graduates together," says Lizane Füzy, General Manager of Gradlinc. "We believe the platform will significantly improve graduates' employment opportunities nationwide."

Gradlinc solves two of employers' most significant pain points: time and money. The unique matching abilities of the platform will assist employers in saving more than 80 percent of their average time and money spent on hiring graduates.

Graduates can easily see jobs posted by employers with specific requirements matching their skillset and apply immediately. Gradlinc finally offers a local solution tailored to the current context and graduate marketplace for tertiary institutions, fully grasping these complex landscapes and providing a much more affordable and comprehensive alternative.

The current day graduate is tech-savvy and mostly connected on their mobile devices and uses cloud platforms. A recent study at Stellenbosch University shows students want to avoid browsing hundreds of irrelevant jobs. They indicate the need for "less is more," referring to applying for jobs easily without too much hassle or tedious forms to complete. With that in mind, the Gradlinc team has worked hard to build a user-friendly and efficient platform.

"We've developed a sophisticated and unique solution to link students with opportunities relevant to them," says Füzy. "While also enabling employers to save time and money, and helping universities achieve a key objective – creating employment opportunities tailored to their graduates' field of expertise as soon as they graduate."

Gradlinc will be the gateway for graduates to apply their newly acquired knowledge, skills, and talents in a related position. Ultimately, they will be generating positive value in society and having a real impact on their community. Gradlinc ensure inclusivity and that all relevant candidates get equal employment opportunities regardless of their academic performance or other factors that previously disadvantaged them.

'n Innoverende loopbaanontwikkelingsplatform vir gegradueerdes – Gradlinc – is aan die begin van die Universiteit Stellenbosch se 2022-gradeplegtigheidsweek op 5 Desember 2022 bekendgestel.

Gradlinc is 'n noodsaaklike oplossing om werkgewers, gegradueerdes en universiteite op 'n nasionale wolkgebaseerde platform met mekaar te verbind. Die platform se unieke bypassende algoritme verseker dat werkgewers se posvereistes baie presies ooreenstem met die gegradueerdes se vaardighede. Die Universiteit Stellenbosch se innovasie-afdeling, Innovus, het hierdie inisiatief gefinansier.

"Hierdie pasgemaakte gegradueerde loopbaanontwikkelingsplatform sal geloofwaardige, kwalifiserende en geverifieerde gegradueerdes in staat stel om by bestaande werksgeleenthede aan te sluit deur werkgewers en gegradueerdes bymekaar te bring," sê Lizane Füzy, hoofbestuurder van Gradlinc. “Ons glo die platform sal gegradueerdes se kanse op werksgeleenthede landwyd aansienlik verbeter.”

Gradlinc los twee van werkgewers se belangrikste pynpunte op: tyd en geld. Die unieke bypassende vermoëns van die platform sal werkgewers help om meer as 80 persent van hul gemiddelde tyd en geld te bespaar wat spandeer word om gegradueerdes aan te stel.

Gegradueerdes kan maklik poste sien wat deur werkgewers geplaas is met spesifieke vereistes wat by hul vaardighede pas en dadelik aansoek doen. Vir tersiêre instellings bied Gradlinc uiteindelik 'n plaaslike oplossing wat aangepas is vir die huidige konteks en gegradueerde mark, wat hierdie komplekse landskappe ten volle begryp en 'n baie meer bekostigbare en omvattende alternatief bied.

Vandag se gegradueerders  is tegnies vaardig en is meestal op hul mobiele toestelle gekoppel en gebruik wolkplatforms. ’n Onlangse studie aan die Universiteit Stellenbosch wys studente wil vermy om deur honderde irrelevante poste te blaai. Hulle dui op die behoefte aan "minder is meer," met verwysing na om maklik aansoek te doen vir werk sonder te veel moeite of vervelige vorms om te voltooi. Met dit in gedagte het die Gradlinc-span hard gewerk om 'n gebruikersvriendelike en doeltreffende platform te bou.

"Ons het 'n gesofistikeerde en unieke oplossing ontwikkel om studente te koppel aan geleenthede wat vir hulle relevant is," sê Füzy. "Terwyl dit ook werkgewers in staat stel om tyd en geld te bespaar, en universiteite help om 'n sleuteldoelwit te bereik - die skep van werksgeleenthede wat pasgemaak is vir hul gegradueerdes se kundigheidsveld sodra hulle gradueer."

Gradlinc sal die poort wees vir gegradueerdes om hul nuut verworwe kennis, vaardighede en talente in 'n verwante posisie toe te pas. Uiteindelik sal hulle positiewe waarde in die samelewing genereer en 'n werklike impak op hul gemeenskap hê. Gradlinc verseker inklusiwiteit en dat alle relevante kandidate gelyke werksgeleenthede kry ongeag hul akademiese prestasie of ander faktore wat hulle voorheen benadeel het.
